SOLID FOUNDATION HEAVY DUTY GUARD RELIABLE DRIVE MICROPROCESSOR

Plastics Extrusion Machinery, Inc. developed the Model 140 Series of On Demand Rotary Knife Cutters with the simple idea that our customers needed a technically proficient, yet simple to use machine. We built it rugged for years of trouble free service. We built it complete so when our customers receive their machine it is ready to quickly put into service by simply setting it on line, applying power, and setting the controls.

SOLID FOUNDATION
The unique machine base is an integral part of the machine, not an option. The all welded steel base provides a very stable platform for the entire machine. Casters are standard for the convenience of moving the knife easily from line to line. Four quick turn leveling pads hold the knife firmly in place when set in line. A convenient single point height adjustment wheel quickly sets the knife to your line height . The knife has a full fifteen(15) inches longitudinal movement providing ample space for starting new products, clearing jams and blade maintenance. A positive position lock is provided to hold the carriage in place.

HEAVY DUTY GUARD
The knife guard housing was designed uniquely for this machine to provide trouble free service in all applications. Solid aluminum plate is used in the construction of the guard for strength and longevity. Being naturally rust proof makes the knife guard ideal for blade lubrication and cooling, plus the housing is predrilled for attaching the optional cooling systems. Drip, spray, mist and flood systems are easily attached to the machine and the standard microprocessor control (PLC) can be used to control the system cycles. Another feature resulting from the strength of the guard design is the rigid clamping of the knife bushings keeping them accurately aligned. The open cover indicator and the optional broken blade detector are each firmly mounted in machined pockets for permenant alignment. The guard extends past the base for close alignment with upstream equipment.

RELIABLE DRIVE
The heart of the Rotary Knife is the time proven electromagnetic clutch/ brake and the AC motor drive. Both are mounted on a solid aluminum base plate. Power is transmitted from the motor to the clutch via a non-slip cog belt; which in turn drives the precision balanced flywheel providing more cutting power to the blade. For both the safety and the convenience of your maintenance personnel, large inspection windows are provided both in front and on top of the motor/ clutch housing. This allows observation of the drives in operation without removing the safety shields.
Optional vacuum and hydraulic clutch/ brake drives are available for special applications.

MICROPROCESSOR
The brain of the system is the microprocessor control (PLC) that controls all functions of the Rotary Knife. Cut length, batch sizes, and separate counters for batch and system cuts are standard features. Jam detection and optional broken blade detection are all processed by the PLC which then produces two distinctly different audible and visual alarms. The operator is immediately aware of the problem and the type of problem so he can rapidly take corrective action.
An optional operator interface control is available for interfacing directly with the microprocessor (PLC) control. This provides both on machine programming and direct interface with other equipment and production computers.
